Taking the first step!

Blogging is something I have been thinking about doing for a long time, but hadn't really given much serious thought to yet. I didn't know quite how to start, what to write about, or if anyone would even be interested in reading it. Now as anyone in my family will tell you, I am usually quite an impulsive person--buying something the moment I see it (case-in-point: Purchasing a "rice hat" while in San Francisco's Chinatown because I wanted to own one--What on earth am I going to do with a rice hat?!?), or jumping into a project/idea/hobby then quickly tiring of it (hello, scrapbooking, beading, knitting, crocheting, and stamp collecting among many others). I just couldn't let blogging be added to that list, so I decided to wait (something I don't do well), and do some research. I was going to start reading a few blogs--observing how the author wrote, what kinds of things they wrote about, and generally getting a feel for what blogging was all about. I had it all planned out.

Then yesterday, while watching House (my current obsession), I received a message on my facebook from a friend saying she had just started a veggie cooking blog and urging me to start my cake blog. My impulsiveness promptly took over, all plans for researching and developing a blog over time flew out the window, and approximately 5 minutes later I had my own blog. I then spent the next 3 hours playing with templates, colors, images, and layouts. I finally decided on the "look" my blog would have and then tackled the next project: Adsense.

Adsense sounds like a total ripoff if you ask me. (Adsense is a way for google to advertise on your blog. They put up ads on your blogs main page, then send you money when people click on the ads. I googled it and read that other users have been shut down when google thinks they are committing "click-fraud".) To save myself the headache, I have decided to forgo making a fortune off my blog (*sigh*) and use it only to inspire others, share advice, tips, and tricks, and maybe learn something about blogging for the future.
Next up: Creating an Etsy Shop!!! (Maybe that will make a fortune....)

Thanks for reading!!
